우화적인 텍스트는 작품들을 지탱하며 딜레마로 가득한 사회적 삶 혹은 세계 자체를 은유한다. 이해받지 못할 사랑, 불가능한 변화, 불편한 공존, 현실로부터의 탈주 등 이야기 속 인물들은 비현실적인 풍경에 놓인 채 자신의 목적을 좇는다.
그러나 결말에서 모든 것이 수포로 돌아감에 따라 이들의 행위는 헛된 것이나 이질적인 장르적 코드로 전락한다.
이러한 이야기는 환상적인 도상, 변형된 신체와 파편, 흐릿한 윤곽으로 구현되며 연약하면서도 날카로운 시각적 이미지를 형성한다. 김엄지는 이를 통해 허구와 실제, 성(聖)과 속(俗), 아름다움과 폭력, 아이러니와 서정 등 다양한 주제를 계속해서 대조하며 병치한다.
