황희선은 작은 크기의 개체들을 창작하고, 이들이 어디에나 존재하게 한다. 각각의 개체는 세포처럼 작은 단위로 생성되고, 가상과 현실 속에서 자유롭게 이동이 가능하다.
세포는 끊임없이 생성하고, 변이 및 분열하는 과정을 거쳐 소멸하기를 반복한다. 그들은 효율적인 물질 교환을 위해 분열을 통해 수를 늘리는 작업을 한다. 작고 일정한 크기를 갖춘 세포들은 상황에 따라 여럿이 모여 표면적을 넓히고 물질을 흡수한다. 그러다 더 이상 분열될 수 없을 때, 그들은 소멸한다.
이렇게 우연적이고 규정 지어지기 어려운 동시에 한편으로는 객관적이기도 한 세포의 (변이 그리고 분열하는) 과정적 특징에 주목하고, 그가 만든 개체들이 현실과 가상을 넘나들며 발생하는 우연성 속에서 분열된 존재에 대해 정의 내리기보다, 그 자체로 존재하도록 중점을 두며 작업한다.
Hwang Hee-sun creates small entities and places them everywhere. Each entity is generated as a tiny unit, like a cell, and can move freely between the virtual and the real world.
The cells are constantly being created, undergoing mutations and division, and repeating the process of disappearing. They multiply through division to facilitate efficient material exchange. These small, consistently-sized cells gather to expand their surface area and absorb substances when necessary. When they can no longer divide, they vanish.
Hwang focuses on the processual characteristics of the cells—mutation and division—that are both accidental and difficult to define, while also being objective in some sense. Rather than defining the fragmented existence of his creations as they traverse between reality and virtuality, he emphasizes allowing them to simply exist as they are, within the randomness of their environment.
